2 by 2
After several decades’ absence, my paintings beginning in the fall 2017 once again focus on the whole person. Blame this on coming across watercolors I did in 1983 that seemed to impress me with how people react to having a camera pointed on them. I discuss this retro look of mine in a December, 2017, blog post: Sidewalk Studio: Deja Vu. The first seven in the series are “Untitled.” I had hoped to use the first names of the models, but, after emailing participants with an image of the completed painting and requesting their first names, no one had replied. Starting with “Mike & Jared,” I asked for first names when I did the initial photographing.
The “Tetouan” paintings were made during an autumn 2018 residency at Green Olive Arts, in Tetouan, Morocco.
In order to have my series of 2 by 2 watercolors reflect the masked-wearing days of the 2020 COVID-19 flu pandemic, I’ve created a separate portfolio called Pandemic
