Tuscany 2012 – Lucca’s duomo
Posted by scott on Jul 09, 2012 in Art I SeeOur second full day (Friday, April 20) brings us back to Lucca. Now that the jet lag has begun to ease up, we have the patience and eyes for museums. So we return to the duomo to take a more detailed look around – more wonderful designs to absorb and carving to delight.
If some of this pattern and design work seems to have little to do with Catholicism, the contents of the duomo’s museum leave little doubt about the religious orientation of the land. Take a look at this ceramic of the head of John the Baptist on a plate and silver-and gold-reliquary of a saint who evidently flayed to death (note the rake held by the hand).
