The Procession series of 1995-8 capped off some 15 years of art making dedicated to what people do in public spaces.  Most of this series began by photographing parades with inflated cartoon characters on Pratt St. in Baltimore. The borders in this series are a response to my travels to Italy, Greece and Turkey and my use of historical design elements in my travel paintings. (See the portfolio Foreign Travel: https://www.scottponemone.com/portfolio/foreign-travel/)  I treated the parades as if they were religious processions where I arbitrarily distinguish believers from non-believes by how they are painted.
